Remixing traditional Chinese motifs for a modern Western audience

This zine was a digital anthology magazine made by, and made for fans of two characters of Heaven Official's Blessing, a Chinese fantasy novel set against a backdrop of deities and ghosts.
As this fan community were audiences of the localised version of the novel, many of them are not of Chinese descent, hence in making this zine I wanted to remix traditional Chinese motifs in a way it would be palatable to modern, non-Chinese sensibilities.
Through the visual identity and graphics I designed for the zine and its social media, this zine managed to gain a strong brand presence amongst other zines made within the community.
The distinct traditional Chinese elements attracted many contributors to join us and onlookers to await the zine, and in total it managed to make over 300USD+ in donations.
It is available for free to download at this link.
