Finding Uncle Who? is a self-guided interactive heritage trail based in Clementi, developed in collaboration with the National Heritage Board’s Heritage Activation Node at Clementi (HAN@Clementi).
As part of a 2025 youth-led initiative, the project aimed to promote Clementi’s history and heritage by presenting its stories and social memories through a public outreach programme.
The challenge was to engage youths (aged 15-35) who are typically uninterested in heritage and culture, and reframe it from something traditionally perceived as static into an experience that feels relevant, immersive, and compelling.
The trail is still available to participate in through the site here up until September!
Increase youth engagement with local heritage and history
Reframe heritage as interactive and story-driven rather than passive
Create an experience that feels modern, immersive, and accessible
The project was designed as a choose-your-own-adventure narrative, allowing participants to actively shape their journey through the trail.
By combining immersive storytelling with interactive decision-making, the experience transforms users from passive viewers into active participants. Thus encouraging curiosity, exploration, and personal investment in uncovering the story.
For this project, I contributed to the overall art direction and key aspects of the storyline, including shaping the core idea of the choose-your-own-adventure format.
This was further developed collaboratively with the team into the final interactive experience.
Key Features of the Experience
Structured the experience as a non-linear anthology, where users first encounter the beginning and end of the story, prompting them to explore additional paths to piece together the full narrative.
Framed historical content within a narrative-driven quest, making exploration feel purposeful and engaging.
Developed moments of interaction that encourage participation, discovery and deeper engagement with the environment.
