Chaos, and what could have been

Chaos, and what could have been

POSTER DESIGN
ILLUSTRATION

Created in response to the brief "contrast," this poster explores the dynamic tension between chaos and order — two opposing forces that constantly influence and define each other in both design and life.

I approached the concept by visually contrasting scenes of peace and structure with those of ruin and disruption, using strong visual juxtapositions to evoke the tension between calm and collapse.

To embody this idea, I used chess pieces as the central motif. The scattered nature of the pieces disrupts the expected order of the chessboard — an image most people intuitively recognize as being “out of place.”

This familiar symbol allowed me to communicate the breakdown of order in a way that feels both universal and immediate.

The strategic use of light and dark not only guides the viewer’s focus visually but also reinforces the concept—emphasizing the sense of chaos circling an image of order at the heart of the poster.

This poster was made through digital illustration and painting on Procreate, with reference 3D models from Clip Studio Paint. Lighting effects were then added on Photoshop.
